Iced oatmeal applesauce cookies!

These cookies didn’t turn out how I had thought they would. They turned out even better!

I’ve had a hankering for oatmeal cookies for weeks now, since eating some super delicious ones at a seminar I went to in Berkeley. I also happen to have a box of Quaker Oats that’s been lying dormant since that blueberry oatmeal I made a while back, and what better way to use them up? So I’ve been looking around for oatmeal cookie recipes that sound promising.

Then I picked up a copy of “Martha Stewart’s Cookies” at Target, and found this recipe, and got really excited. Click to continue »

I served it with our roast chicken, but it’d also be delicious with pork. Or roast beef. Or even dessert.

Croissant French toast with caramel apples!

Since National Croissant Day (don’t you love these random food holidays?) is coming up on Jan. 30, I decided I’d try to bake some croissants for the blog. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Baking croissants?

Yeah, I thought so too, until I pulled out my favorite baking book — “The Secrets of Baking” — and saw that Sherry Yard’s instructions for making croissants spanned six pages.
