Chocolate-dipped orange cookies

Orange zest for the cookie dough!

The combination of orange and chocolate seems really Christmas-y to me, for some reason. I think it comes from a brief stint working at Office Max during college. Being in the business of selling office supplies, we didn’t sell tons of treats, but around Christmastime, we had a pretty big display of those chocolate oranges …

Ricotta orange pound cake with strawberries

Strawberries!

A few weeks ago, after enviously watching Larissa pluck strawberries from her bountiful SLO Veg box, I drove down to the South County to pick up some berries of my own at one of those roadside fruit stands. Bittersweet chocolate tart with mandarin oranges

Um. So, I made this bittersweet chocolate tart for — surprise, surprise — National Bittersweet Chocolate Day, which was Sunday. But, uh, things didn’t go according to plan. In fact, the title of this post should really be: “How NOT to make a chocolate tart.”

Gingerbread brioche French toast with orange butter

A slice of gingerbread brioche soaking up that eggy-orangey-cinnamony goodness.

So now that you’ve baked up a few loaves of gingerbread brioche (right?), here’s what you can do with it: Make French toast! This recipe was in Williams-Sonoma’s holiday catalog, except it called for store-bought panettone. I figured it’d be pretty delicious with gingerbread brioche, and what do you know — it is!
