A humanoid mushroom

By Larissa

Although my bum knee means I won’t be running the California International Marathon on December 5, I haven’t stopped training.

Well, I haven’t exactly kept up the training I would have needed in order to complete 26.2 miles, but I’ve been running three to four days a week, typically 4 to 5 miles each time. Except for Saturdays, that is. read more »

Attack of the goat heads

By Larissa

A couple of weeks ago, while running with my sister, she lamented about the goat heads that frequently attack her.

I thought maybe it was time to take a break. The heat and exertion must have been getting to her. How is it just the goat’s head that attacks? I know they have horns and are into head-butting and all, but seems like they’d need legs to attack too. read more »

By Larissa

Disregard that last post about my bum knee making me sad I can’t participate in the California International Marathon in December.

I found something better. read more »

How to irritate a marathon runner

By Chrissy | Today's run: 0. But I did a tiny 1.23 mile hike!

Now, I don’t want y’all to take this wrong way, but … I’m sooo glad Larissa’s knee hurts.

Hey, I said not to take it the wrong way! I don’t mean I’m glad she’s in pain, or that she has to give up on her increasingly impressive running goals. That totally sucks. I am, however, glad that she isn’t going to become one of those elite marathon runners just yet. Because then she’d hate me.

But Chrissy, you say. How can anyone hate you? You’re so adorably and nonthreateningly pathetic.

I know!!! But here’s the thing: Marathon runners are snobs. read more »

Runner’s knee

By Larissa

Toward the end of my 15 mile run nine days ago, my right knee started hurting.

Trying to reassure myself, I thought maybe it was due to a major stumble I took at mile 10. I didn’t fall all the way down, but tripped pretty good. (Of course this happened in front of the Atascadero High School float getting ready to enter the Colony Days Parade, which made me feel like a doofy teenager again. But that’s a whole other issue.) read more »

And the burger binge begins . . .

By Chrissy | Today's run: 0

So, the first day of the week is Sunday, right? Or does the week start on Monday? I can’t decide. I mean, the calendar widget on my Dashboard has the week starting on Sunday, but my electronic timecard has the week starting on Monday. That chick who sings that ‘80s song “Saturday Love” starts the chorus with Sunday. But most people start their work week on Monday. And Sunday is one-half of what is referred to as the “weekend,” as opposed to the “weekbegin.” I’m so confused!

You look confused, too. Probably because you’re wondering what, exactly, this has to do with running. The answer: Nothing. But it does have to do with cheeseburgers. read more »

It’s finally over!

By Danny | Today's run: 0 miles. I'm done with this running nonsense

My co-workers are bugging me to write my “I finished the City to Sea half-marathon” post, because they apparently feel that their posts were insufficient.  I just needed some time to recover after the race.  So, anyway, here it is.

I finished the City to Sea half-marathon, you guys! read more »

Tale of City to the Sea

By Larissa

A few weeks ago, I posted an entry about how horrible runs are well, horrible.

I promised in the future I’d write about why I love to run.

After Sunday’s City to the Sea race, I can now write that entry.

Hooray! I survived City to the Sea!

By Chrissy | Today's run: 13.1 miles!

Who has two thumbs and finished a half-marathon today?

THIS GIRL!!!

(Since I didn’t bring a camera to the race, you’ll have to picture me standing at the City to the Sea finish line pointing my thumbs at myself like a goofball. If you want the image to be completely accurate, you’ll have to also picture me drenched with sweat and looking miserable.)

Not only did I make it the entire 13.1-mile distance before they shut down the course, I did it in record time! Well, record time for me, anyway. According to the official race results, my average pace was 12 minutes, 34 seconds per mile. My slightly more optimistic Nike+ said my pace today was 12:20 — almost a minute faster than my practice half-marathon pace! read more »
