YouTube Video of the Week: Popcorn and cell phones

Internet

Feeling hungry? By now, you may have seen the string of videos circulating the Internet that show cell phones popping popcorn.

Here’s how it works: Point three or four cell phones at each other and place a few kernels of Orville Redenbacher in the center. Call the phones simultaneously. The radiation emitted by the cell phones cooks the corn.

At least, that’s what the videos say.

According to the gadget-savvy gurus at Gizmodo.com, these viral videos are actually a marketing campaign for Bluetooth headset manufacturer Cardo.

Plus, as a physicist tells Wired magazine, it just ain’t physically possible.

That great debunker of online myths, Snopes.com, agrees.

Although it’s unlikely the radiation from your average cell phone would cook food, let alone your noggin, popcorn via phone still sounds like a great snack on-the-go.
