Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

Even supervillains need love

Every now and then, I find myself wondering: “What is “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon up to?”

Whedon is something akin to a god among sci fi and fantasy fans these days, thanks to his iconic TV shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Firefly.”

Lately, he’s been working on a show called “Dollhouse,” starring Eliza Dushku, about a group of young people who have their memories and personalities wiped after each mysterious mission. It’s an interesting premise, supposedly inspired by Dushku’s own experiences as a young actress in Hollywood.

There’s a horror movie in the works called “Cabin in the Wood,” penned with “Cloverfield” writer Drew Goddard. And there’s a fantasy/thriller, “Goners,” that’s currently on Universal Studios’ back burner.

Whedon’s other project, however, is the one that really caught my eye.

Ever heard of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”?

Imagine a supervillain with a video blog.

Torn between his quest for world domination and his crush on a girl he sees every week at the laundromat, Dr. Horrible is a nice, sweet guy who frequently breaks into song.

What could be more adorable?

Neil Patrick Harris, star of “Doogie Howser M.D.” and “How I Met Your Mother,” plays the good doctor.

The rest of the cast are all familiar faces from Whedon’s shows, including “Buffy” alum Felicia Day as Dr. Horrible’s love interest, Penny, and “Firefly” stud Nathan Fillion as pompous superhero Captain Hammer.

Thanks to a speedy release schedule, you can watch Act II of “Dr. Horrible” starting today. Act III will be available on Saturday.
