Robert Preston leads a singing, dancing cast in “The Music Man”
There’s trouble in River City, and his name is Harold Hill!
Hill (Robert Preston), the crafty con man in “The Music Man,” travels from town to town encouraging music-minded citizens to start a boy’s marching band. Once he’s collected money for musical instruments and band uniforms, however, he skips town.
Hill encounters a hitch in sleepy River City, Iowa, in the form of no-nonsense librarian Marian Paroo (Shirley Jones). Together with his associate, Marcellus Washburn (Buddy Hackett), he sets out to win her heart, and win over the good people of River City as well.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Oscar-winning movie musical “The Music Man” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Galaxy Colony Square Theatre in Atascadero. There’s also a 6 p.m. reception in the lobby of City Hall.
Tickets are $25, or $15 for students and San Luis Obispo International Film Festival members.
