Surfers in Morro Bay were treated to a nice surprise Monday morning: A full rainbow that arched over the surf and appeared to dip straight into the water.
Sports writer Brian Milne and I had been on the fence as to whether to get in the water when we decided that the rainbow had to be a sign. You know – as if Mother Nature really cares whether we surf. And as if Mother Nature sends messages via rainbow.
If I actually knew how to upload photos from my cell phone, you’d be able to see that lovely rainbow. But because of my technical incompetence, the best you can do is look at the photo above by Trib photographer Joe Johnston and pretend there’s a rainbow there. Heck, maybe even print it out and color a rainbow on it. Except I think that might violate our photo reprint policy.
Anyway, since I let you down with that rainbow shot, here’s a cool web site about the mechanics of surfing.
Enjoy.
Next time I see a rainbow in the water – say, like, 20 years from now — I’ll make sure I have a real camera on hand.
