It seems like it was just a short while ago that I heard the word “blog” for the first time.
I think I even said something like, “Are you saying blogs?”
“Yeah – as in Web logs.”
“Web???”
But now it seems blogs are everywhere. And everyone has one – kids, entertainers, Tibetan monks, you name it.
OK, maybe not Tibetan monks. Or maybe. I don’t know. Ask Richard Gere. Or better yet, check out his blog.
Wait – he doesn’t have a blog? OK, so maybe not everyone has one. But the Tribune is apparently trying to make up for that because we now have roughly 248 blogs on our Web site. That’s right, every employee – plus delivery drivers and the guy who refills the Doritos in the snack machine – now has their own blog.
No, no – I’m just kidding. But my point is: This is a blog-friendly outfit. And in honor of this, we’re unveiling a couple of new blogs this week.
My features partner, Sarah Linn, is now writing mostly about movies in her blog, “She Likes to Watch.” (Yeah, I know – interesting blog name.) Meanwhile, this blog, in case you missed it, is called Sidetracked, which is basically a good title if you can’t commit to one particular topic.
There are some reoccurring themes, however. On this blog you will read (or not, depending on whether you’re my mother) mostly stuff about music and surfing. But there will also be stuff about books, movies, TV and probably a fair amount of me blathering about everyday stuff like dentists, facial hair or Butterbean.
You see now why we need these blogs? That’s just good stuff.
Both Sarah and I previously contributed to the features blog, SLO Goings. So, yeah, we kind of divorced and went our own ways. And while there were no kids, we did split blog entries.
We’re still on good terms, though, and, in fact, we often have long discussions – usually about Tibetan monks.

So is this Dali Lama also known for his skills at surrealist artwork? Beware, Pat, copy editors are always watching you, especially when you’re blogging without a net.
