The #1 Song the Day You Were Born

Well, I never considered myself a love child. But the day I was born, “Love Child” by Diana Ross and the Supreme was the #1 single, according to Billboard’s Top 100 charts.

My friend Scott sent me a link to this web site, which allows you to look up the #1 song the day you were born. And while I usually ignore e-mails that make you do stuff, I was sort of curious. In fact, I thought it’d be cool if, say, the Beatles or the Stones had the top song the week I came to be.

But it was Diana Ross & the Supremes.

“Love Child.”

Don’t get me wrong — I love Motown: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Commodores — awesome.

But I’ve never been too keen on Diana Ross. And “Love Child”?

Kinda sucks.

I would have been okay with “Baby Love,” “Where Did Our Love Go” or “Come See About Me.” Instead, I got “Love Child,” which didn’t even feature the real Supremes on the record (They used Ross and session singers.)

If I’d been born a year later, the #1 song would have been “Come Together/Something” by the Beatles.

What were you thinking, Mom?

My friend Scott had a much cooler song — “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. What was the #1 song the day you were born?

Of course, if you’re unhappy with your results, you can see what the #1 song was in the UK and Australia on this site. The #1 hit in the UK when I was born was “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” — yeah, the one from the Clint Eastwood movie — which hardly even counts as a song, if you ask me.

I mean, yeah — it worked for the movie. But would you jam to it in your car?

Now the Australians — they didn’t let me down. Their #1 single the day I was born?

Hey Jude” by the Beatles.

  1. Of all things, Love Child.

I got Rhinestone Coyboy by Glen Campbell. What does it all MEAN? Is that why I named my son Glen? Is it because I love rhinestones or because I love cowboys?

  2. Wow! I just enjoyed 15 minutes of mindless fun. Thanks, Pat!

My song was “(Just Like) Starting Over” by the late, great John Lennon.

  3. Oooh, I’m glad I checked the UK chart.

“Imagine” by John Lennon is even better!
