When I was surfing in Morro Bay this weekend, a dreamy thought crossed my mind:
If only I could surf a little more like Batman.
That’s right — Batman. You probably didn’t know, but Batman was a pretty good longboarder in his day.
I know what you’re thinking — of all the super heroes, Aquaman should be the surfer. But check this out:
Now this is the happier Adam West Batman from the TV show, so he’s definitely more likely to get in the water than the broody Batmans we’ve seen on the big screen in recent years. But this does leave a few questions:
1.) Why is Batman competing in a surf contest with Joker? Did they make a bet, where if Joker wins, he gets to rob a bank or something?
2.) Why is Batman wearing yellow shorts? They don’t even match his cape.
3.) Where can I get a Batboard? I mean, really — that thing is really cool.
If you’re like me and feel like you’ve just had a really surreal dream after watching this, you can read more about the episode here.

Mystified, Pat? Let me enlighten you.
1) The Silver Surfer, the interstellar stoke-meister who scopes out new spots for Galactus, is the obvious choice to enter a surf contest. Aquaman (DC), Black Manta (DC) and the Sub-Mariner (Marvel) should also compete.
2) Batman’s yellow shorts match his utility belt with this outfit and — most importantly — his surfboard. The real question is: Why in hades is this guy wearing a cape while braving ocean waves?!? It seems … unsafe.
3) If someone made Bat-skates for the opening scene of “Batman and Robin” (Worst. Batman. Movie. Ever.), then there must surely be a Batman-themed board out there.
