While many surf movies have a segment devoted to female surfers, usually it’s a token thing. But that won’t happen with “Dear & Yonder,” a surf film made specifically to highlight women in waves.
The film will screen at La Perla del Mar in Shell Beach Dec. 11.
Anyone who’s a fan of Thomas Campbell movies will probably like this one. It’s got the same mellow vibe, utilizing lulling music, slow motion and dreamy underwater shots. Of course, it’s no surprise that it makes one think of Campbell — his wife, Tiffany Campbell, is one of the movie makers.
Stars of this film include Kassie Meador, Belinda Baggs-Peterson and Sofia Mulanovich. The film includes a geophysicist, a sailor and a shaper. So expect some story telling.
The trailer at the top gives you a pretty good feel for the film. And, I have to admit, the song has been growing on me. “Been So Long” is by a folk band named Vetiver. The leading force behind the band is Andy Cabic, originally from Virginia and now living in San Francisco.
