Compared to other surf spots along the coast, you don't see San Luis Obispo County featured in surf magazines that often. And, of course, some surfers prefer it that way.
But some of the county's spots are featured in the new issue of The Surfer's Journal. In a spread featuring the work of South County photographer Chris Burkard, there are shots of Pismo Beach, Avila Beach and Cayucos. In addition to those close-to-home shots, Burkard has some good travel stuff in there as well.
Last year, the magazine featured shots of Morro Bay and Shell Beach in a feature on Tony Corley, the Paso Robles surfer who founded the Black Surfing Association.
Speaking of surf, the summer conditions have been sticking around. This week the water's been glassy through most of the days. And it looks like we'll continue to get a break from the wind this weekend, for the most part.
