Usually, when I take my camera out in the surf, I’m taking shots of my surf buddies. But Sunday it was so good at Shell Beach, I couldn’t resist turning the camera around for a few shots of myself.
Earlier today, I was talking to one of our photographers about shooting yourself surfing with the GoPro camera, and I think his description of these shots was something like, “gratuitous, self-serving vanity shots.” (Personally, I think he’s jealous, but — ssssssh — don’t tell him I said that.)
So here you go. My gratuitous, self-serving vanity shot of the day.
I usually avoid these because at this angle, all the shots are pretty much the same unless you get one with a huge wave. And, well, I tend to avoid huge waves. But this one came out okay. And to make it a little different, I put some PicMonkey effects on it.
When I posted this and a few others of myself on Facebook, one of my aunts asked how in the world did I get such shots. I told her there was a tiny photographer at the front of my board.
Then I told her the truth — it was actually a dog with a camera in its mouth.
