Music to go with your 4th fireworks

I have to admit, I generally take it pretty easy on July 4th. Usually, I enjoy the day off — perhaps beginning with a little morning surf session — and then in the evening, we set up chairs outside our place and watch the nearby Morro Bay fireworks from the comforts of home.

But this year, Morro Bay is stepping up the celebrations with a day of surf, music and — yes — fireworks.

In the morning, AmpSurf — the organization that teaches surfing to people with disabilities — will hold a clinic at the Rock. Then at 11, the 2nd annual Morro Bay Mile Skate Race will take place at the embarcadero, leading to the 3rd annual bike parade.

At night, featured musical acts include Bump City, a Tower of Power tribute band, and The Silent Comedy, which recently performed at Bannaroo. Bump City’s show begins at 4, with Silent Comedy following at 7.

Of course, some of the festivities will be in competition with nearby Cayucos, which features its ever-popular July 4 parade, plus evening fireworks. Pismo Beach will also have its annual fireworks show, as will Paso Robles. On the north coast, Cambria will also host a day of music and fireworks.
