Would that older building be the Andrews Hotel?
Check out the rooster weathervane!
The old newspaper had an article about how it ended up on the “new” building. Something to the effect of when the old building was razed to the ground, a worker saw the weathervane in the refuse pile and pulled it out. Someone with a sense of humor decided putting it on the new Palm Street building would be a good idea. Wonder if it’s still there?
The rooster is sticking up from the tower of the older Osos Street building. It was stolen a few years back and I don’t think it was ever recovered.
The rooster seen in the photo (upper left) is not in fact mounted on the Annex building pictured here. It is on the roof of the 1941 Courthouse Tower (just out of view), having been salvaged from the demolition of the 19th century courthouse. The rooster has been repeatedly stollen, and was last recovered at a local radio station. As I type this, I am viewing it at the location at which it has roosted (mostly) since 1941.
