The university has grown up since then. The tallest building in this photo is the theater and the administration building is off the edge of the frame in the clock tower building. It looks like two stories was a big building and there are even some open parking spaces.

The empty parking spaces are what surprise me the most, haha.
It’s amazing to see how much the campus has grown over the last four decades. It was a beautiful campus then and it’s even more beautiful now. You may be surprised to find that there are still open parking spaces daily, they’re just a little farther from the campus core.
Thanks for sharing the great picture of Poly!
Thanks Cindy for the comments & using a name other than anonymous. Cal Poly has grown up and out from when I was a student in the early 1980’s.
When I was there my favorite lot was where the Ag Science building is now. The bad news was you had to be there at 6:45am to be sure of a space.
I remember that parking lot well. There used to be even more trees and very seldom did Cal Poly security come around with tickets in hand. Just to the right of the long row of trees (center left in the picture) was a long building where fresh produce and eggs were sold. Not as crowded in ’61 with 4200 students and a ratio of 9 men to every woman!
