June 25, 1964

cattle-deaths-a1.jpgA deadly combination of a bad hay and drought lead to a scene reminiscent of dust bowl days not far from Parkfield. A delivery of hay was moldy leading to fatal consequences. The ranch owner brought in high concentrate feed to replace the contaminated hay, was moving cattle to other pastures and was pursuing legal action against the feed supplier. This story ran the same day as the grading protest in Shell Beach.
