If you are in these photos, or know someone who is, sorry. These were too good to pass up.

In the mid-1960’s television had not yet destroyed the impulse for folks to gather and put on a show. After seeing these pictures you may think “Thank God and R.C.A. for tee vee”

But wait a second.

Really, do you get more out of American Gladiators, America’s Got’s Talent’s or America’s Funniest Home Accidents? How about CSI Cucamonga?

About the only place you find this kind of foolery anymore is summer camp. In the 1960’s seems like every few weeks the paper was covering a show, play or presentation.

“Fathers’ and Faculty Follies,” a male variety show, was the major fund raising event for the San LuisObispo Junior High School Parent Teacher Association.

Parents paid 75 cents, students 25 cents.

They saw Bill Jacobs Combo, a unicyclist, Rose’s Ruffians, The Student Prince, Flying Francis, The Earwigs, The Three R’s, Gleason’s Guys and Gals, Lucky Hall and Challenger and the Gold Coast Chorus.

Photos by Jim Vestal, published April 19, 1965.
