I have written about my travails while traveling on Cuesta Grade. Since the time of the horse and buggy crossing the Santa Lucia Range has been an adventure. Some incidents are major, others minor, here these California Highway Patrol officers lost two tires to the road. This photo was published Monday August 27, 1979. Here is the published caption.
Tiring work
Unidentified sharp objects on the shoulder of Highway 101 knocked this Highway Patrol car out of action temporarily Saturday as Officer Gary Fowler, kneeling, and Sgt. William G. Koehler went to direct traffic around a brush fire on the Cuesta Grade.

I think that Officer Koehler could be more productive by changing the other tire while Officer Fowler is changing the first one. He really doesn’t have to stand there doing nothing. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
After all, they have important work waiting for them at the fire.
It’s the little things in life that bring a smile to our faces.
I had a similar thought Steven but only one jack per car.
They must have picked up a second spare from another car but it is not too safe having two wheels jacked up at once.
True. True.
