The epic flooding of 1914 has been covered in two previous posts. One shows flooding as Tally Ho Creek cuts through Branch Street in Arroyo Grande. The other shows the structure that gives Bridge Street a name, undermined by flooding.
This looks to be the same bridge from the opposite point of view and view closer to street level. as the recovery effort looks to be underway. Wood beams are stacked under the steel bridge as work gets underway to bring the bridge back up to level.
The late January storm knocked out railroads, washed out cemeteries and toppled bridges. It was the yardstick epic floods were measured by until 1969.
This is one of the images from the Leonard collection.
