CIF-Southern Section announces all-section volleyball teams

January 12th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Arroyo Grande senior Olivia Trudeau was one of two setters named to the girls volleyball All-CIF Southern Section Division I first team.

Trudeau, this season’s Tribune Girls Volleyball Player of the Year, averaged 9.2 assists, 2.4 digs and 1 per game for the Eagles in the fall.

Over the past four seasons, she has been such an integral part of the Eagles lineup that she played in every match and did not miss a single point during her four-year varsity career.

In November, Trudeau signed her national letter of intent to play volleyball for Seton Hall this fall.

The Eagles won the PAC 7 title for a third consecutive season and advanced into the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division I-A playoffs before losing to Marymount. The Eagles have been knocked out of the playoffs in the third round in each of the past four seasons.

Other San Luis Obispo County players named to All-CIF Southern Section teams include a trio from Coastal Christian. Senior middle blocker Kaitlyn Henry and senior setter Madison Sano were both named to the first team, and senior outside hitter Kaitlynd Carroll was a second-team selection.

Henry recorded a season-high 21 kills in a losing effort against Coast Union during the first round of the CIF Southern California Division V state playoffs in November. She was named to the second team of The Tribune’s All-County Girls Volleyball Team after averaging 3.3 kills, 1.1 aces and 4.6 digs per game this season.

Sano, also a second-team selection on The Tribune’s All-County Girls Volleyball Team, averaged 7.2 assists and 1.6 digs per game this season. Carroll averaged 2.4 kills, 7.7 digs and 1 ace per game.

Note — The CIF-Southern Section postponed the release of the All-CIF Southern Section football teams until Jan. 20 because two divisions remain incomplete.

Come ON! Three postings in a month. A total of 7 comments (not counting this one). Pretty much ZERO stories in the paper about the county’s HS basketball teams other than yawn-inducing recaps of scores and statistics. NO follow-up on any of the football players with college potential. NO interviews with coaches. WE DIDN’T EVEN GET A BASKETBALL PREVIEW THIS YEAR!!! I’ve always enjoyed hearing about the players and programs in the area . . . Is this what the Trib has in store for the future? If so, I will let my subscription lapse.
