San Luis Obispo girls tennis in Division III championship match

While we’re all getting ready for Friday night football (expect another post tonight after all the dust settles), I’d like to call some attention to arguably the most successful prep sports team in San Luis Obispo County this fall season — San Luis Obispo girls tennis.

In case you missed it, on Thursday, the Tigers (20-1) breezed by South Pasadena 12-6 to advance to the CIF-Southern Section Division III championship match.

In the final, they’ll take on No. 1 seed San Marino (21-0) on Monday at the Claremont Tennis Club. The day’s play begins at 10 a.m. San Luis Obispo, which hasn’t even lost a PAC 7 league match since 2004, last won such a championship in 1990.

The scary part? The Tigers’ top two singles players, Tori Troesch and Abigail Will (pictured above), are both just sophomores. Paso Robles had a much improved program this year, in its own right, but don’t expect the Tigers to stumble as the county’s pre-eminent girls tennis power any time soon.
