Mission Prep gets huge upset over Coastal Christian

It may be the upset of the year so far in girls’ volleyball aside from Nipomo beating Santa Ynez to break a seven-year Los Padres League winning streak held by Santa Ynez earlier this season.

Mission Prep beat undefeated Coastal Christian tonight 3-1 to become the first team this season to win against the Conquerors who came into the game at 21-0. Coastal Christian was ranked third in Division 5-AA this week.

The score was 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-22.

Mission was led by Grace Ready with 13 kills and five aces. Noelle Laird had nine kills and two aces. Jessa Culver had 13 digs and five aces and Rachel Hindmarsh added eight kills for the Royals.

Solid serving and minimizing mistakes led to the victory, according to Mission Prep staffers. Coastal Christian beat the Royals handily in a 3-0 match earlier in the season.

That’s a big turnaround for the Royals.
