Trouble outside the box

Ten juveniles in the drive-through at Jack in the Box were harassing employees and refusing to leave. Officers talked with several of the youth, advised them of the curfew and gave them 15 minutes to get home. The employees checked out OK.

Having a good time

A man who appeared to be 60 was acting bizarrely in Scolaris. He was clucking like a chicken and dancing. He then went to the parking lot and tried to start a black pickup truck by hot-wiring it. He was gone by the time officers arrived.

A man in his 60s was smoking in the no-smoking patio area at Starbucks. The manager tried talking to the man, but he refused to obey the sign not to smoke and refused to leave. Other customers were complaining.

Please stop having fun

Several juveniles were seen toilet papering a number of houses in the neighborhood. The person who called police didn’t want contact from officers, but wanted the kids counseled.

Watch for signs

A woman rolled her ankle on one of the large signs that was set out in front of the movie theater advising the sidewalk was closed. The legs of the sign were sticking out 2 1/2 to 3 feet from the base and were the same color as the sidewalk. An officer set out safety cones at the base of the approximately 6-foot tall orange sign.

A resident said there had been a verbal altercation between three males in the upstairs apartment for more than three hours. Officers contacted the residents, and found it was a loud TV.

An 8- or 9-year-old boy was reportedly left at Video Palace by himself while his grandmother went to the store. Officers talked with the boy, who was 14 and in the store with a family member.

A resident said his neighbor across the street possibly stole his Playstation controller from the top of his car in the driveway. Officers talked with both men, and no one was able to determine where the controller went.

A resident said their upstairs neighbor was yelling and screaming for unknown reasons. The neighbor did not live with anyone. Officers talked with the neighbor, who apologized and promised to quiet down.

A man with a flashlight was looking through cars. Officers stopped the man, who was a resident and said he heard a loud noise and was outside checking.

A woman was panhandling in the center divider. Officers talked with her and warned her to not stand in the roadway. She said she was new in town. A man who plays a banjo was panhandling on a  nearby corner, but the woman denied knowing him, though he was also new in town.

A resident said his brother, who had been drinking, was knocking at his front door. The brother had ridden his skateboard from San Miguel to the residence.

A woman parked in front of the police station and said she had two juveniles in the car who refused to wear seat belts, hit her while she was driving, and and were not behaving. Officers counseled the youth.

A boy came to the police department to speak with an officer about ongoing problems with his parents. He said he was upset because his mom was telling friends that he tested positive for drugs.

Three teenagers in dark clothing were seen tagging the fence at the municipal pool, possibly with a marker. A passerby kept an eye on the youth until an officer arrived. The officer talked with the teens, and found one of them was putting up a note to ask his girlfriend to prom.

A man who lives across the street from a school playground would reportedly turn on his vehicle and run it every time the students were outside playing. The exhaust was said to be strong smelling.

Neighborhood watchman

A resident said a woman was being hit by a caregiver with a ruler or a yardstick. The resident said the person was also hitting animals. He said he was watching all this through binoculars, and could not give an address to where it was occurring. Officers searched the area, but were unable to find anything.

A resident said a razor blade was found in a food item bought at Big Lots in Atascadero. The person was advised to go back to the store to make a complaint.

Crank caller

A resident was concerned because someone called in a complaint against her for having a loud party. She said it’s happened twice, but she has not had any parties or loud people in her house. The last call was document at 3 a.m., and she and her family had been sleeping, and an officer had determined it was ufounded. The woman did not know who was calling in the false reports.

Ay yi yi

A customer at Nuevo Mexico was causing a disturbance because he did not want to pay. Employees originally though he left without paying, but then found he did leave some money on the table. The employee did not think it was enough to cover the cost of the meal. It was later determined the man left $40 on the table after becoming hostile with the attendant. The bill was $42.
